2.    COMMUNITY RESIDENTIAL PERMIT PARKING CONSOLIDATION MEETING

Wednesday, February 20th, 6-7pm
St. Mary of the Angels Church - Parish Office, 2nd Floor
1850 W Cortland

Chicago's Residential Permit Parking program is designed to restrict parking on designated residential streets during specified hours to provide residents of densely populated areas with reasonable parking near their homes.

The 32nd Ward currently has 15 separate parking zones for 70 zoned streets.  In order to ease the permit application process and make parking more available to 32nd Ward residents, the 15 zones will be consolidated into 6 regional zones.  This will only affect streets that are currently zoned for residential parking.  Streets in Lincoln Park and Ukrainian Village already have unified zone parking and will not be affected by this change.  The new zone numbers will take effect on July 1, 2008, the start date of the calendar year for city stickers and permit parking stickers.

The 32nd Ward Alderman, Scott Waguespack, has announced that the next meeting will be held in Bucktown to discuss the unification of zones, as well as the possible change of hours on the signs.

If you cannot attend this meeting, but would like to learn more or voice your opinion, please contact Alderman Waguespack's office at: 773.248.1330, or email Kerri Stojack at: kstojack@cityofchicago.org

3.    JUMP, JIVE & JIGGLE FOR JASPER! (Fundraiser the whole family can attend.)
Saturday,  February 23rd,  11am-2pm
Drummond School Gymnasium
1845 W Cortland

FOD (Friends of Drummond School) is lending its support to Jump Jive and Jiggle for Jasper, a fundraiser supporting a long-time Bucktown family whose daughter is currently a student at Drummond and whose son suffers from the terrible, debilitating disease Metachromatic Leukodystrophy.

The money raised at this event will go directly to the MLD Foundation to support further research. This fundraiser is a dance-a-thon so make sure to wear your dancing shoes.  Show off your dance moves while listening to the music.  There will also be some group dances like the Hokey-Pokey, The Tooty-Ta, the Chicken Dance and the Cha-Cha slide.

Your attendance at this low-cost, low-key fundraiser would be a terrific way to to show your support for our fellow FODers, while also socializing with the larger Drummond community and enjoying a fun family event!

To find out more about the event and to register, please click here: www.jumpjiggleandjive.com

In addition to attending the event, you can volunteer to help out.  Additional raffle prizes are needed, as our volunteers to help with set-up, clean-up, and other day-of functions.  This is an easy way to get involved at Drummond without making a massive commitment.

To volunteer or donate to the event, or to find out more about FOD, please contact:

 6.    BUCKTOWN GARDEN WALK COMMITTEE MEETING
Wednesday, February 27th, 7pm
Club Lucky - Club Room
1824 W Wabansia

After a two year hiatus, the Bucktown GardenWalk will be revived this summer and will be produced by the Bucktown Community Organization!

The BCO officially added a new board position in January that will be responsible for overseening the community wide event, and we have appointed past BCO president Eva Bergant to head it up. She has already formed a committee which includes members from the former Bucktown Garden Club and other interested neighbors to start the planning.

The 2008 edition of the Bucktown GardenWalk will take place the weekend of July 12th & 13th. The committee will be meeting monthly to plan the Garden Walk and we invite
anyone interested in getting involved to join us at this meeting.

Visit our GardenWalk page on the BCO website for updates: bucktown.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=69&Itemid=71

Please direct any questions to Eva Bergant at Eva@Bucktown.org

7.    SENIORS RIDE THE RTA FREE PROGRAM
Begins March 17th

From 32nd Ward Alderman Scott Waguespack's e-newsletter: Beginning March 17, 2008, seniors over the age of 65 are eligible for free transit on RTA routes. Seniors will need senior reduced fare cards in order to take advantage of free rides.

If you already have a senior reduced fare card, you will be automatically enrolled and the card will take effect on March 17. The RTA plans to eventually transition all current senior reduced fare permit cards to smart cards, which will allow quicker and easier boarding for seniors. Notifications will be sent in advance of this change.

For seniors who do not have a reduced fare card, you can simply register during regular business hours at any authorized RTA center. For more information on registration sites, go to www.rtachicago.com or call 836-7000 from any area code.
