Amy Weisenbach BCO VP-Special Events Each year the Bucktown Community Organization presents 10 general meetings that focus on topics of interest to our membership. For each of these meetings, featured speakers are singled out and invited to join us and speak on their topic of expertise. General meetings in 2009 have ranged from a Zoning 101 to a State Government update by State Rep. John Fritchey. Last year's Bucktown school fair that attracted more than 200 parents, and this year is expected to be even bigger on October 20th! The BCO is the sponsor of Movies in Churchill Park and is responsible for choosing the three movies that are screened under the stars. Our membership fees help underwrite the cost, along with neighborhood business sponsors.
The 2009 dates and movies were: Thursday, June 18: Chicago Themed Movie: My Big Fat Greek Wedding - Sponsored by Olivia's Sunday, July 26: Family Friendly/Classic Crowd Favorite: Raiders of the Lost Ark - Sponsored by Chipotle Sunday, August 23: For Kids of All Ages: Kung Fu Panda - Sponsored by Children's Dentistry @ 1611 Wolcott The BCO executes hands-on community events like the cleaning and greening of Ehrler and Churchill parks for Earth Day. We also produce social networking events like "Members Appreciation Night" and the "Bucktown Holiday Party".
Our last Members' Appreciation Night took place on September 23rd at Chaise Lounge. In May we had our first Members' Appreciation Night for 2009 @ Lotties. It was a great night with nearly 50 members attending. We also celebrated Lottie's 75th Anniversary!
