Bucktown GardenWalk 2009
The Bucktown GardenWalk is Saturday and Sunday July 11 and 12, 2009 from 11 am to 5 pm.Please join us! Our 100 + urban gardens will be open from 11 am to 5 pm each day. Starting at the Welcome Table at Club Lucky, 1824 W Wabansia or on the Free Neighborhood Trolley, your $5 donation will get you a GuideBook containing the Garden Map, and the descriptions. The trolley route is below. The Bucktown GardenWalk is unique in our focus on urban gardens. Many of our Bucktown Gardeners work magic in small spaces, challenging light, water and soil conditions. We’ve taken on rooftops, parkways and patios while some have side and back yards to garden. We welcome you this weekend to explore our successes and our treasures as you walk around our one mile square neighborhood. We are inspired by our neighbor’s gardens and hope that you find some bits of inspiration on your walk. New this year is the "Bucktown TreeTour", a self guided walk focused on our tree lined streets. Volunteers have identified over 80 varieties of trees in our neighborhood. This is a wonderful opportunity to see how trees work with our gardens. The TreeTour will remain on the website as a resource for tree identification during all seasons in Bucktown. There will be one guided tour offered on Sunday starting at 1pm at Lotties, 1939 W Cortland. Please join us.
Returning for a second year we present “Art in the Garden” - the Plein Air Painters of Chicago who find inspiration in the neighborhood and are creating new works on the streets and in the gardens. They will be selling these works each day on Damen Ave at Wabansia. A portion of the proceeds go to the BCO's work. The Garden Oasis at Club Lucky is our green education venue. Please stop by to learn about ways to improve your garden, modify your carbon footprint and enjoy the outdoors. Master Gardeners and Arborists will be available for your questions from noon to 3pm. Food and beverages are available and music will provide a background for this spot. After 3pm there will be live music, presented by Club Lucky , to conclude your day in Bucktown. Lotties, 1939 W Cortland, will have a free petting zoo on Saturday from Noon to 3pm. On Sunday meet here at 1pm for the only Guided TreeTour. Our local businesses have offered specials in the GuideBook, please support them as they have supported us. Keep your eyes open for other surprises.

Please join us in thanking them.
Bucktown Gardeners THANK YOU for making this a HUGE success. We have exceeded our goal of 100 gardens for 2009! Entries are now closed. We are in need of volunteers for the event! You do not need to be a gardener to get involved! We need volunteers to help sell ads in the GuideBook, sign up Gardens, deliver balloons the morning of the walk and help at the info tables or on the trolley during the walk. Please contact EvaB@bucktown.org for questions or to volunteer.
Thank you to our local businesses and others who support us with thier advertising dollars and wish to reach the Bucktown GardenWalk participants.Proceeds from the event are reinvested into Bucktown beautification efforts, including the flowers at the Bucktown Wicker Park Library, the community border garden at Churchill Park, the Gateway Green at Cortland/Ashland and gardens at Drummond Montesori School.
